Incredibly easy dinner recipe; quick prep and quick cook burgers - only took me 10 minutes total! Making dinner decisions on the fly is pretty common some weeks, however today I was completely ready and prepared to make burgers for dinner. Of course when it came time to cook and I realized there was no propane in the grill I felt hopeless until I remembered how much I love my cast iron skillet! I figured it was worth a shot to test out a new way to make a burger and I couldn't have been more right. It was so good, I think I may actually cook my burgers this way all the time!
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, chicken, etc.)
- buns, cheese, toppings & condiments
- Cast iron skillet
-
Separate ground meat into 4 equal portions and form patties.
-
Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes before cooking.
-
Place cast iron skillet over medium-high heat; add butter and heat until foaming.
-
While the pan is heating up, season each patty generously with salt and your favorite seasonings (I like to use an all-purpose seasoning salt such as Lawry's or the Trader Joe's one). If you want to add pepper, I recommend doing so after the burger is cooked since pepper tends to burn quickly in a pan.
-
Transfer burgers to skillet and cook without moving for 3 minutes. Using spatula, flip burgers over and cook for 2 more minutes. If desired, top each patty with a slice of cheese and continue to cook until cheese is melted.
-
Remove burgers from the skillet, add all your DELLicious toppings of choice and serve.
Note 1: Sometimes I save myself time and buy store bought patties. If you choose to do this, you can follow the recipe as is, make sure they are refrigerated until you are ready to season.
Note 2: If you don't have a cast iron skillet, use a heavy-bottomed large skillet
Note 3: If you have extra time, and want to make bacon cheeseburgers, I highly recommend frying the bacon in the cast iron skillet first and then use that extra grease to cook the burgers. It gives SO much extra DELLicious flavor.
