Looking for a nice dessert for Hanukkah or Passover or other Jewish Holidays? Here is a great, easy Hanukkah dessert recipe, Matzo Crackle. You can easily substitute the Matzo with saltines for an everyday easy, delicious dessert recipe.
- 5 Matzo, salted preferred
- 1 cup Unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup Brown Sugar (dark preferred, but light will work too)
- 12 oz Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- Pecans or Pretzels or Sprinkles, or your other choice of topping
- Kosher Salt, for topping
- Small Saucepan
- Baking Sheet
- Aluminum Foil
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil.
-
Cover the baking sheet with the matzo, cutting and piecing them together as needed to fill the entire pan.
-
To make the toffee: Add butter and sugar to a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a whisk, until the mixture comes to a boil. Once the mixture comes to a boil, continue cooking and whisking for about 3 minutes until foamy and thick.
-
Pour the toffee mixture over the matzo and using a spatula spread into an even layer.
-
Put the pan into the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes.
-
Remove the pan from the oven and scatter the chocolate chips evenly over top. Wait 3 minutes for the chips to soften, then spread the chocolate into an even layer.
-
Sprinkle the top with your favorite topping (pretzels, sprinkles, nuts, etc). Refrigerate until the chocolate is firm, about 45 minutes.
-
Lift the foil out to transfer matzo crackle onto a large cutting board. Using a large sharp knife or hands, cut into 2-inch squares. Store in an airtight container in the fridge and serve cold.
